Class Descriptions
Toddlers
The toddler class is designed for children ages 3-5. In this class, children will learn coordination, balance, posture, and stretching
through games and activities. They will gain knowledge of traditional Irish music and have an
understanding of rhythm. The toddler class is split into continuous three month sessions, and
children may advance to the beginner class a their own pace.
Beginners
Children who are new to Irish Dance will become skilled at basic foot placement,
posture, strength excercises and all fundamentals needed to progress. Beginners at Cass Academy will be introduced
to soft-shoe solo dancing as well as Ceili and figure dancing. All dancers are eligible for performances and competitions
starting at the beginner level providing they have all of the requirements set forth by our instructors.
Advanced Dancers
As dancers progress, classes become more frequent and steps become increasingly difficult. Dancers continue to develop
and train in their soft-shoe, hard-shoe, team and performance dancing while focusing on stamina and drills. A common
goal for competitive dancers is acquiring a solo costume. This can be achieved at the Prizewinner level at Cass
Academy. For champion dancers, competition can lead to the Regional, National and/or World Championships and beyond
Adults
The adult class at Cass Academy promises an enjoyable time and great excercise. The emphasis of this class will be on Ceili dancing,
with a little bit of basic step dancing. This is a wonderful social opportunity where the dances learned can be applied
to any Irish party you attend!
